Adani Ports’ flagship Mundra Port has achieved a historic operational milestone by handling 21,085 Twenty foot equivalent unit - TEUs (containers) on MSC AMBRA, the highest-ever container volume handled on a single vessel at an Indian port. This landmark achievement establishes a new national record and reinforces Mundra Port’s position as India’s leading commercial port and a strategically important gateway for the country’s growing containerised trade.

MSC AMBRA is among the largest container vessels operating globally. To understand its enormous scale, imagine nearly four football fields placed end to end. The vessel measures an impressive 400 metres in length and 61.54 metres in width. Its displacement of 256,228 metric tonnes is comparable to the combined weight of approximately 42,700 adult elephants. At the time of arrival, the vessel had a forward draft of 15.10 metres and an aft draft of 15.15 metres, reflecting the advanced marine infrastructure and deep-draft capabilities required to safely accommodate a vessel of this magnitude.

The latest achievement surpasses the previous national record set by MSC LIVORNO in January 2024, when 16,569 TEUs were handled on a single vessel. By handling 21,085 TEUs on MSC AMBRA, the Adani Ports team exceeded the earlier benchmark by 4,516 TEUs, an increase of approximately 26.9 per cent.

The successful operation reflects Mundra Port’s technological sophistication, operational preparedness and ability to efficiently manage ultra-large container vessels. Handling a 400-metre-long vessel with a record container parcel required meticulous pre-arrival planning, precise berth allocation, strategic crane deployment, real-time yard management and seamless coordination among multiple teams. The port’s advanced terminal infrastructure, modern cargo-handling equipment, data-driven systems and experienced workforce enabled the complex operation to be executed with precision, efficiency and a strong focus on safety.
