Led by growth in fertilisers and container cargo volumes, Kandla port in Gujarat on Thursday became the “fastest” major port in India to achieve 100 million tonnes of cargo handling during the current financial year 2025-26.

Compared to last year, the port saw an overall year-on-year growth of almost seven percent in total cargo. Last fiscal, Kandla had achieved the 100 million tonnes mark on December 11, 2024. This year, the port handled 81 per cent more fertilisers and 61 percent more containerised cargo, data shared by Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) stated. 

During FY 2026 there has been a 50 per cent growth in Iron and steel cargo, while the Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) category saw a 35 percent growth. The port also handled 22 per cent more timber than last year. Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman DPA stated, “Crossing 100 million tons in record time is a proud moment for DPA Kandla and for the maritime fraternity of India. This achievement is the result of the relentless commitment and teamwork of our Shramik brothers and sisters, officers, employees, workers, marine crew, port users, stakeholders, stevedores, vessel agents, trade partners and every individual who contributes to the 24X7 functioning of this Port”
