Combined coal stocks held by China’s six key power generators in southern and eastern China — Zhejiang Power, Shanghai Power, Guangdong Power (Yudean), Guodian, Datang and Huaneng — averaged at 10.065 million mt over the week ended August 23, down 2.1% week on week, according to Qinhuangdao Port’s weekly report released Thursday.

The stocks would last for an average of 14.44 days of consumption at the six power generators, up 0.05 days week on week, the report said.

Average coal consumption at the six power generators was 697,000 mt/day in the week ended August 23, down 2.5% week on week, data from the report showed.

Continuing high temperatures in southern and eastern China will bolster coal consumption at the power plants until September, the report said.
