The government is hopeful of attaining its set target of 100 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of capacity addition in the 12 Major Ports during the current fiscal year 2016-17, Parliament was told recently.
This would be achieved by completing 29 projects with an investment of Rs 4,815 crore, it was emphasised. Besides, 33 projects are proposed to be awarded during 2016-17 in the Major Ports, with an investment of Rs 9,845 crore.
The Major Ports had seen capacity addition of 93.84 mtpa in 2015-16 as against the target of 92.81 mtpa, it was highlighted.
