Brazil iron ore exports surged 12% in November

The country’s iron ore exports increased sharply during the month of November this year, says latest statistics released by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce (MDIC) of Brazil.

Brazil’s iron ore exports totaled 31.439 million tons during the month. This is higher by 12.3% when matched with the exports during the corresponding month last year. The country had exported 28.000 million tons of iron ore during November 2015. Also, the total value of exports by the country has increased sharply by nearly 37% over the year from $900.816 million in November last year to $1.234 billion in November 2016. The average export price too has increased significantly by 22.0% year-on-year to $39.2 per ton FOB in November this year. The Brazilian iron ore exports had averaged at $32.2 per ton FOB in November 2015.

The largest importer of iron ore from Brazil during the month was China. The imports by China totaled 18.990 million tons, valued at $707.5 million. The export prices averaged at $37.30 per ton. Brazil exported 2.292 million tons of iron ore to Japan during the month. The Japanese imports from Brazil were valued at $96.014 million. The average price of export stood at $41.9 per ton. In third place was the Netherlands with 1.969 million tons. The total value of imports by the country amounted to $88.738 million. The imports of Brazilian ore by the Netherlands averaged at $45.10 per ton during November this year. The other key importers of iron ore from Brazil were Malaysia (1.076 million tons), France (887,307 tons), South Korea (657,774 tons) and Oman (573,297 tons).

The exports of agglomerated iron ore during November ’16 totaled 2.342 million tons, significantly higher by 34.4% when compared with the same month a year before. The Brazilian agglomerated iron ore exports had totaled 1.742 million tons during November 2015. The value of exports amounted to $160.617 million during Nov ‘16. The export value has surged higher significantly by nearly 83% when compared with the previous year. The Brazilian iron ore exports were valued at $87.809 million during November 2015. The export prices of agglomerated ore saw considerable increase of 36.1% over the year. The average export price edged higher from $50.40 per ton in Nov ‘15 to $68.6 per ton in Nov ‘16.

The largest importer of agglomerated iron ore from Brazil was the Netherlands. The imports by the country totaled 551,633 tons. The value of iron ore imports by the Netherlands totaled $38.012 million. The exports averaged at $68.9 per ton. The other key importers of Brazilian iron ore during the month were China (304,922 tons), the USA (281,138 tons), Japan (223,320 tons) and Argentina (188,583 tons).

The exports of non agglomerated iron ore totaled 29.098 million tons, accounting for over 92.5% of the total exports. The non-agglomerated iron ore exports by the country grew by 10.8% when matched with 26.258 million tons exported during November 2015. The value of non-agglomerated iron ore exports has increased sharply by nearly 32% year-on-year to $1.073 billion from $813.007 million a year before.

The country exported non-agglomerated iron ore mainly to China. The Chinese imports from Brazil totaled 18.685 million tons at an average price of $36.7 per ton. The value of iron ore imports by China totaled $686.534 million. The other primary importers of non-agglomerated iron ore from Brazil during November this year were Japan (2.069 million tons), the Netherlands (1.417 million tons) and Malaysia (1.076 million tons).
