COSCO SHIPPING Lines CO., Ltd has announced the launch of the GEM2 service between South Asia and East Mediterranean from July 2, 2017. The service will be operated in collaboration with Ocean Alliance partner CMA CGM and its affiliate APL.
The service will provide direct callings between South Asia and Turkey with competitive transit times. Meanwhile, COSCO SHIPPING Lines will leverage the major hub of Piraeus to offer comprehensive coverage in North Europe, Black Sea and Adriatic, along with swift transit to Central Europe and the Balkans by Land-Sea Express service, said a release.
To be more specific, the transit time to Rotterdam is 23 days from Mundra and 25 days from Nhava Sheva via Piraeus, and the transit time from Mersin is 11 days to Karachi, 13 days to Mundra and 15 days to Nhava Sheva.
The service will comprise 5 x 4,250-TEU vessels operating on fixed weekly rotation, as follows: Khorfakkan* - Karachi - Nhava Sheva - Mundra - Djibouti - Jeddah - Damietta - Piraeus - Malta - Aliaga - Mersin - Port Said West - Khorfakkan*

With this new launch, COSCO SHIPPING Lines will be able to optimise the network between South Asia and Mediterranean and significantly enhance connections between the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Europe, providing more diversified services to its customers, the release added.
