MANSA representatives met Mr. Sanjay Bhatia, IAS, new Chairman of MbPT on 5th May 2016 and welcomed him on his taking over as Chairman of MbPT recently. After introducing themselves, MANSA Members explained the requirements of the Port for continued uninterrupted work of the vessels. The actions to be taken urgently were highlighted such as Dredging of the Berths and Channels after onset of monsoon, labour shortage, utilization of Offshore Container Terminal optimally, shortage of Pilots / Equipment and other pressing issues. The Chairman was kind enough to take a note of the issues raised and promised to look into the same at the earliest. The Chairman also emphatically said that he would like to improve the Port subject to the co-operation from all the stakeholders and would like to be very transparent in all his dealings.
He expressed that with the Governments initiatives, new projects are being envisaged for improving the activities in the Port. When MANSA Members requested full support from the Port for organizing the ensuing Conference on 'Ease of Doing Business in the Indian Maritime Sector' he wished MANSA all success and hoped that this Conference would facilitate in highlighting the issues and arriving at suggestions for improving the system.
