Mr. Dinesh Shastri, in his capacity of Managing Director of Tata NYK Shipping Pte Ltd. since January 2014, a 50:50 joint venture company of Tata Steel and NYK Line headquartered at Singapore, is in charge of the company’s shipping business and operations through envisioning and strategic leadership.
Mr. Shastri has a rich experience of more than two and a half decades across the value chain in mining & bulk commodities sector. He joined Tata Steel in 1989 as a Graduate Trainee in its Raw Materials Division after completing his Mining Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. For next few years he worked in mining operations in large scale iron ore and chromite mining.
He later moved to the commercial function, and was engaged in the marketing and supply chain management for bulk commodity materials (chrome ore/ concentrate/ alloys) in the domestic and international markets.
He took over as Chief (Marketing & Business Development) Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division in 2002 and was responsible for developing marketing and growth strategy for the division which is one of the largest Profit Centres (SBUs) of the company.
In 2004, he was seconded to Sila Eastern Ltd, Thailand, as the Managing Director. During his stint in Thailand, he was instrumental in developing a multi-modal supply chain for limestone in a green-field set up in environmentally sensitive region in Southern Thailand, thus providing an alternate source to supplies from middle-east.
On his return to Tata Steel in 2008, he was appointed as the Executive In Charge, Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division with P&L responsibilities, a position he occupied till April 2010 till he moved as General Manager (Global Minerals).
In 2010, he was appointed General Manager (Global Minerals). In his stint with Global Minerals, he has been associated with evaluation of mineral assets covering production and delivery systems, development of mining projects and relationship management with JV partners.
He has also served as the Chairman of the Indian Ferro Alloys Producers Association, council member of the International Chrome Development Authority.
During his illustrious career in the Tata Group, he has demonstrated leadership in handling diverse functional responsibilities while respecting cross-cultural sensitivity and nurtured smooth partner relationships, in mining and supply chain management.
Mr. Shastri is an avid follower of Formula One and his hobbies include reading and sports.
