Zim, Maersk, MSC to hook up to serve Asia-US East Coast trade

ZIM has joined 2M Alliance partners Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) in a scheme to serve Asia and US east coast ports, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

Starting early September, the parties will operate five loops between Asia and the US East Coast. Zim will operate one loop and 2M will operate the other, all swapping slots with each other on all routes.

The new cooperation offers Zim customers a wider range of direct calls in Asia and the US and faster transit times, though the press release contained no port rotation.

Said Zim president and CEO Eli Glickman: "The agreement will significantly improve Zim services on this important trade, where Zim remains a major player."

Mr Glickman said Zim will continue to be independent, building on Zim personal links with Zim customers, for which Zim is well known in addition to its technological initiatives such as Zim successful blockchain project.
