Global primary aluminum output in June dropped 2.2% month on month, data from the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) showed.
Total global production in June was 5.32 million mt, down from 5.44 million mt in May. The figure was also 2.9% lower year on year.
Average daily production was up 1.1% month on month at 177,400 mt, marking the highest output on a daily basis in a year.
For the January-June period, world production fell 1% year on year to 31.75 million mt.
Chinese primary aluminum production in June fell 1.9% month on month and 6.2% year on year. Over January-June, China produced 17.9 million mt of primary aluminum, down 3.3% year on year.
Production in Europe and North America in June fell 2.7% and 5.6% month on month to 642,000 mt and 303,000 mt, respectively.
In Asia excluding China, primary production in June fell slightly by 1.1% month on month to 368,000 mt. The figure was still 18% higher year on year.
In the Middle East, aluminum production followed the downtrend, falling 3.1% month on month to 444,000 mt, but was up 4.2% year on year.
