Dr. Sanjay Bhavnani has been associated with the marine industry for more than three decades. Prior moving to the newly formed MMS Maritime in 2001, a wholly owned subsidiary of the MEIJI Shipping Group of Japan, he worked in the head office of the Japanese shipping company. His involvement with oil tankers goes back to his sailing days where he last sailed as a Chief Engineer for several years followed by shore experience at a marine institute where he headed the entire tanker related training.
MMS Maritime is presently involved in diverse maritime activities focusing on the crewing and the training operations pertaining to its seafarers deployed on the oil, Chemical and Gas tanker vessels, operated, and in most cases, owned, by the Japanese parent company, and long term chartered to various oil majors. Sanjay’s present perspective on crewing and training is based on his close interactions had with the seafarers, the shore staff, and other industry stakeholders, over the last several years, with an attempt to align their expectations within an integrated framework. Coupled with the pandemic related effects, the ever increasing demands placed on shipping in terms of both regulatory as well as technical compliance his involvement has offered him multiple perspectives.
After coming ashore, Sanjay completed a post graduate diploma in management, a Bachelor’s in law, along with a Masters in Maritime Law. He has been awarded a Doctorate in Business Management with a specialisation in Human Resources.
