India sees limited impact of US tariffs on pharma sector, eyes larger share in global exports: Sources

news-details

India anticipates a small price impact on its pharmaceutical exports due to new US tariffs from the Trump administration, government sources told CNBC-TV18. They said this is because the Trump administration has not yet imposed punitive tariffs on the pharma sector.

India will work within the World Trade Organization (WTO) framework to prevent the dumping of excess capacity into its markets by countries hit by high US tariffs, the sources said.

Officials are also exploring measures to protect sensitive sectors like dairy and agriculture amid the broader trade war, according to the sources.

The government is in regular contact with top trade envoys from several nations and is analysing global tariff changes to identify markets where Indian exports can expand.

In the wake of the reciprocal tariffs, the government is looking for a a chance to grow India’s share in global exports, the sources told CNBC-TV18.
