Petronet LNG on Wednesday said it commissioned the expansion of its Dahej LNG terminal, increasing the facility's regasification capacity from 17.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MΜΤΡΑ) to 22.5 ΜΜΤΡΑ.

The additional regasification facilities were commissioned at 23:30 hours on March 31, 2026, the company said in a regulatory filing.

The expansion adds 5 MMTPA of capacity to the Dahej terminal, India's largest LNG import facility and a key node in the country's natural gas supply chain.

Petronet LNG's Dahej terminal in Gujarat, India, is Southeast Asia's first LNG receiving and regasification facility, originally built with a capacity of 5 MMTPΑ.

The terminal started operations in 2004 at 5 MMTPA, expanded to 10 MMTPA by 2009, 15 MMTPA by 2016, and then to 17.5 MMTPA via a Phase 1 addition of 2.5 MMTPA commissioned in 2019.

The Phase 2 expansion, adding 5 MMTPA to reach 22.5 MMTPA, began around 2022, with the completion targeted for late 2025.

The facility includes 8 LNG storage tanks, two jetties (one for Q-Max vessels), and truck loading bays for small-scale LNG supply. In FY 2023-24, it handled about 74 per cent of India's LNG imports and 34 per cent of natural gas consumption.

Petronet LNG shares have declined sharply since the Iran war began around early March 2026, primarily due to supply disruptions from QatarEnergy via the Strait of Hormuz.

The stock closed at Rs 310.40 on March 2, 2026, before falling up to 10-12 per cent amid force majeure declarations and Qatar production halts.

By late March 2026, shares hit a 52-week low near Rs 235-248, down roughly 20-25 per cent from pre-war levels around 2310-326.

On Wednesday, the stock was trading nearly 5 per cent higher at Rs 260 apiece on the BSE at 11:54 am.
