APM Terminals Pipavav climbs to 28th in global port rankings

news-details

APM Terminals Pipavav has been ranked 28th globally in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2025, emerging as India’s highest-ranked private container port and the second-highest ranked container port overall in the country.

The port achieved a CPPI score of 92.6, reflecting improvements in vessel turnaround times, operational efficiency and service reliability. The ranking was published by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence, whose annual index measures container port performance based on vessel time spent in port and operational productivity.

The latest ranking highlights the port’s continued focus on operational performance as India seeks to strengthen its trade and logistics infrastructure.

Six years of operational improvement

According to the company, APM Terminals Pipavav has steadily improved its performance over the past six years. Its CPPI score increased from 78 in 2020 to 92.6 in 2025, indicating progress in infrastructure capability, process optimisation and customer service.

The company attributes the improvement to investments in operational excellence, digitalisation initiatives and productivity enhancement measures aimed at improving supply chain efficiency for customers.

The CPPI is widely used by shipping lines, logistics providers and policymakers as a benchmark for assessing port competitiveness and operational effectiveness. Higher rankings are generally associated with faster vessel handling, reduced port congestion and improved reliability across supply chains.

Focus on efficiency and customer service

Commenting on the achievement, Girish Aggarwal, Managing Director of APM Terminals Pipavav, said the ranking reflects the efforts of employees, customers and industry partners across the maritime and logistics ecosystem.

He noted that the improvement in CPPI scores demonstrates the results of sustained investments in safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement. He added that the company remains focused on further enhancing its capabilities to support growing trade volumes and evolving customer requirements.

The port’s performance has been driven by efforts to improve vessel productivity, operational reliability and process efficiency. These measures have enabled exporters, importers, shipping lines and logistics service providers to benefit from more predictable cargo movement and supply chain performance.

Supporting India’s trade growth

The latest CPPI ranking further strengthens APM Terminals Pipavav’s role as a gateway for India’s international trade. The port continues to serve a wide network of shipping lines and cargo customers while supporting the movement of import and export volumes across global markets.

As India’s logistics sector expands and trade activity increases, the company said it will continue investing in people, processes and infrastructure to deliver efficient, safe and customer-focused port operations. The ranking also reflects the growing importance of operational excellence in enhancing the competitiveness of India’s maritime sector.
