Baltic Dry Index Down for 2nd Day

news-details

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, retreated for a second session on Wednesday, falling about 1.4% to a fresh low since July 31 at 2,776 points. Larger declines in the bigger-size segments outweighed a mild increase in the smallest one. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, was also down for a second day, dropping by 1% to a new low since July 31 at 4,376 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, declined by 2.2% to its lowest since July 31 at 2,107 points. On the other hand, the supramax index rose by 0.2% to a fresh high since July 28 at 1,634 points.
