Baltic Dry Index Up for 2nd Day
The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was up for a second session on Wednesday, rising about 1% to 3,620 points, supported by all vessel segments. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, also advanced for a second day, rising 1.4% to 6,400 points. At the same time, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, remained unchanged at 2,414 points; and the supramax index increased 0.7% to 1,704 points.
