The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index rose on Tuesday, with gains across capesize and panamax vessel categories pushing the benchmark higher.
The main Baltic index, which tracks rates for capesize, panamax and supramax vessels, added 94 points, or 3.1%, to 3,085.
The capesize index increased 240 points, or 4.9%, reaching 5,194. Average daily earnings for capesize vessels, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, rose $2,174 to $43,602 as Chinese coking coal and coke prices reached their highest levels since late 2024.
The panamax index gained 35 points, or 1.6%, to 2,258.
