India’s largest container port by MICL opens with global spotlight

news-details

India’s maritime history reached a new milestone with the inauguration of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) Phase II, the country’s largest standalone container port, constructed by Man Infraconstruction Ltd (MICL).

The Prime Ministers of India and Singapore virtually inaugurated the terminal, a game-changing boost for India’s trade capacity.

A historic inauguration

The BMCT Phase II at Jawaharlal Nehru Port was inaugurated by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and Prime Minister of Singapore, Lawrence Wong, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, MLA Parag Shah, and other dignitaries. This event marks one of the most significant advancements in India’s port infrastructure in recent years.

Driving trade and connectivity

The mega port features advanced multimodal and green infrastructure, a 2,000-metre quay, and an annual handling capacity of 4.8 million TEUs. Developed under a major public-private partnership, the project aims to enhance global connectivity and significantly improve trade efficiency.

MICL was awarded the 110-hectare development contract in June 2023 through a competitive bidding process, demonstrating its engineering and execution capabilities.

MICL’s commitment to growth

With the successful completion of BMCT Phase II, MICL has strengthened its reputation as a trusted name in infrastructure development. Speaking on the achievement, Manan P. Shah, Managing Director, MICL Group, said: “We are proud to have successfully constructed the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal Phase II, a flagship project that elevates India’s position on the global maritime stage. This milestone reflects MICL’s commitment to engineering excellence, innovation, and sustainable infrastructure development. We remain dedicated to delivering world-class projects that support India’s growth aspirations and strengthen international trade connectivity.”
