India on Thursday imposed an anti-dumping duty on imports of certain steel products from China for a period of five years, following a probe that found injury to the domestic industry.
According to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), imports of Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Electrical Steel (CRNO) from China will attract a duty of $223.82 per tonne. CRNO includes cold-rolled flat silicon electrical steel products, whether or not in coils, and is widely used in electrical equipment such as motors, generators and small transformers.
The DGTR clarified that Cold Rolled Full Hard Silicon Electrical Steel (CRFH), which is used in the manufacture of CRNO, has been excluded from the scope of the anti-dumping duty.
The duty was imposed after the DGTR concluded that the domestic steel industry had suffered material injury due to dumped imports from China. The investigation was initiated following a complaint by the domestic industry alleging dumping of these products in the Indian market.
Based on its findings, the DGTR had recommended the imposition of the anti-dumping duty, which has now been accepted by the government.
Last month, India had also imposed an anti-dumping duty of $121.55 per tonne on imports of hot-rolled flat steel products from Vietnam for a five-year period.
