Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to Sweden, met Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of Maersk, one of the world’s largest shipping firms, in Gothenburg.

In a post on X, PM Modi said discussions focused on strengthening investment opportunities in India, particularly in port infrastructure, logistics and maritime connectivity. "In Gothenburg, met Mr. Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of Maersk. We discussed the large scope of opportunities in India and deepening investments, especially in sectors like port infrastructure, logistics and more," he wrote.

PM Modi arrived in Sweden earlier in the day for a two-day visit, where he was received at Gothenburg Airport by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. His aircraft was escorted by Swedish Air Force jets as it entered Swedish airspace, reflecting the significance of the visit.

I will be meeting Prime Minister Kristersson with the aim of advancing the India-Sweden friendship in trade, investments, innovation, defence and more," Modi said earlier on social media.

He also noted plans to meet European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and business leaders at the European Business Round Table for Industry, aimed at deepening India-Europe investment ties.

During the visit, PM Modi was awarded Sweden's Royal Order of the Polar Star Commander Grand Cross, the highest honour the country grants to a head of government. The award marks his 31st international honour and highlights growing India-Sweden relations, with bilateral trade reaching USD 7.75 billion in 2025.
