About Seven Islands Shipping Limited
Seven Islands Shipping Limited (SISL) is a Mumbai-based liquid seaborne logistics company that has been operating ocean going tankers for the past 2 decades after being incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956, in Mumbai (India) on 2nd May, 2002. The Company is compliant with the ISO 9001:2015 standard, is certified by the American Bureau of Shipping and is in conformance with the quality standards set by them. SISL was founded and is led by Capt. Thomas Pinto – a master mariner with over 40 years of experience in shipping.
The Company acquired its first tanker in January 2003 and grew its operations by adding to the fleet at regular intervals. Today, SISL is the second largest shipping Company in the Indian private sector, owning 22 liquid cargo tankers and 2 gas carriers ranging from the small tanker category up to the Suezmax category and further to the VLGC & MGC category. Majority of the Company’s vessels are on time charter, lending stability to revenue. The Company has been profitable every year since inception and the quantum of its earnings has increased steadily and rapidly.
SISL owns 3 crude oil tankers, 19 product carriers and two gas carriers. The crude oil vessels and gas carriers cater to the nation’s growing requirement of crude oil and LPG imports, while the product tankers transport various refined oil products to the ports of demand. The Company’s main clients include Fortune500 public sector oil companies like IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, ONGC and their subsidiaries. In addition, the Company also does business with private Indian oil companies like Nayara Energy and Reliance Industries – one of the largest companies in India and also with some foreign oil and petrochemical companies.
Over the past 20 years, the Company has groomed a strong team of professionals to manage all shipping functions, including technical management, operations management, procurement, safety & compliance, manning, sale & purchase, chartering and dry-docking, of its fleet in-house. SISL undertakes regular sale and purchase of vessels with the objective of fleet upgrade and renewal, to cater to its clients’ needs. All its vessels fly the Indian flag.
SISL has been viewed as the fastest growing shipping company in India and has consistently produced the highest financial margins in the Indian shipping industry. This has resulted in the Company being rated CRISIL A+/Stable by CRISIL Ratings. The Company currently enjoys private equity funding from FIH Mauritius Investments Ltd – an investment arm of Fairfax Financial Holdings – one of the best-known investment companies in the world. SISL has used this opportunity to fund the expansion and renewal of its fleet by catering to the steadily growing demand for energy in India and abroad, thus further increasing the pace of its growth.
