A cargo vessel carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the United States has arrived at New Mangalore Port in Karnataka, as India continues to strengthen energy supply lines during the ongoing turmoil in West Asia.
The Singapore-flagged tanker Pyxis Pioneer, loaded with LPG from Texas, docked at the port in Mangaluru on Sunday. The vessel’s arrival follows closely behind another large tanker, Aqua Titan, which reached the same port a day earlier carrying 1.1 lakh tonnes of Urals crude oil.
Originally bound for Rizhao Port in China after departing from Primorsk in Russia, Aqua Titan altered its route and redirected its cargo to India.
Amid the continuing conflict in the Middle East, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announced on Friday that New Mangalore Port would waive cargo-related charges for crude oil and LPG shipments between 14 March and 31 March.
The decision is intended to facilitate the swift movement of energy supplies and ease costs for importers during the period of uncertainty.
The recent arrivals add to a series of LPG shipments entering India this week. Earlier, three Indian-flagged vessels — Shivalik, Nanda Devi, and Jag Laadki — reached Mundra Port in Gujarat carrying LPG cargo. Shivalik docked on Monday, followed by Nanda Devi on Tuesday and Jag Laadki on Wednesday.
